nicky & tom::: wedding!!! (aviemore, scotland)

2014-03-04_0008

it was a cold winter morning, the threat of rain clinging to the sky above us. it would have otherwise been one of those days when one would hope to not have to get out of bed at all, except that today there was a pretty darn good reason to do so. this was the day that nicky and tom would finally become husband and wife. so i got dressed quickly and made my way to the hotel dining room in order to get a good hearty breakfast in. much needed fuel for the day that was ahead of me and the days that had already gone by. you see, two days prior i had gone through quite the adventure to make my way from spain to aviemore, scotland, to be able to photograph this wedding. but that’s a whole ‘nother story for a whole ‘nother day.

let me just say that this was quite the wedding, as it was meant to start with an intimate mountain top snowy ceremony with just family. after days of secretly praying for snow, the day was here and we found out that very morning that road access had unfortunately been cut off due to the heavy snow. oops! so we moved on to plan b and held the small ceremony indoors while everyone, including myself, was wearing snow gear! let me just say this is the only ceremony where i’ve seen a groom sporting a the north face jacket! (i will not post photos of that small ceremony as i would like to maintain the intimate nature of it all, but i thought it made for a fun anecdote that was definitely worth mentioning. ) anyway, once that was all said and done we had a small coffee break (i decided bridal party coffee breaks are a new favourite) and then headed back to the hotel for everyone to get ready for the main event. what followed was just such a joyous day. everyone was so incredibly happy and accommodating towards photographs. men in kilts everywhere, need i say more?! i love it! the day went by way too fast. at one point well into the reception dancing, heather, the lovely mother of the bride, pulled me away from the camera and quite effectively “forced” me to have some fun, do some traditional dancing, and drink some whiskey! haha. let me just say that watching tom and nicky so happy and all the traditional dancing and music by the amazing band corra made for one of the most favourite and fun weddings in my career. and for that i am incredibly thankful. and as you view through these photos all i can honestly hope for is to have been able to honor and capture this amazing day in all it’s glory.

tom and nicky, thank-you-thank-you-thank-you for trusting me, accommodating me, and being so amazing to me during your wedding day. i could not ask for better clients and i am more than happy to call you my friends. i love you guys. so now that it’s all said and done all i have to say is: can you please renew your vows in a few years so we can do this all again? 😉

i am an international portrait and wedding photographer based out of bilbao, spain. i love spending time finding new coffee spots and traveling as much as i possibly can. i am addicted to chocolate, chick flicks, and hitting the gym daily. when i am not doing any of the above i am likely to be found playing my acoustic guitar in some random corner of the house, dropping lyrics like a bad habit. That's all you need to know for now... keep reading and learn more! ;)
